Cathal Can Sign is an illustrated book for children to learn about Irish Sign Language and Gaelic, encouraging strong communication skills at a young age when children are the most receptive to learning new languages. The book is the work of Brenán Mooney, a native of Kiltimagh, County Mayo, Ireland. Intended for both the hearing and hearing impaired, the book uses clear photos of each sign, demonstrated by Brenan's son Daniel, and the illustrated character of Cathal and his family, to introduce basic vocabulary, including the alphabet, numbers, days of the week and family members. Brenán has also released a series of birthday cards and has plans to create further books and teaching materials integrating Irish Sign Language and Gaelic.
